Movie Review: “Star Trek”

Movie Review: “Star Trek”

I Saw “Star Trek” this weekend. The movie start when James T. Kirk (Chris Pine, “Smokin’ Aces” ) is being born, then show him and Spock (Zachary Quinto, “Heroes”) growing up. Then jumps to Spock, James T. Kirk, the sexy Uhura (Zoe Saldana, Vantage Point), Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy (Karl Urban, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”) going through Starfleet Academy. Then it flows to the young USS Enterprise crew first mission. With the main young crew members being: James T. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Dr. Loenard ‘Bones’ McCoy, Hikaru Sulu (John Cho, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay), Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin, Alpha Dog). The USS Enterprise first mission is to go and stop the Romulan Nero (Eric Bana, The Other Boleyn Girl) from blow up pants. **(A SMALL SPOILER ALERT: Then Kirk becomes the First Caption of the USS Enterprise, while Spock becomes the Caption of the Enterprise. Then after a disagreement between Kirk and Spock, Spock as Kirk forcibly removed from the USS Enterprise. Spock put Kirk into an escape pod and stranded him on a nearby frozen planet Delta Vega. While Kirk is on Delta Vega he meet Scotty (Simon Pegg, “Run, Fat boy Run”). Kirk and Scotty then try to find a way back onto the USS Enterprise)**…Then “Star Trek” really kicks it into high gear.

“Star Trek” grabs you from the start of the movie and does not let you go until you hear the memorable quote, “They boldly go where men has ever gone.” It grabs you with the updated action scene from the original “Star Trek”. The story of the movie was very simple, but awesomely executed. This story could have been a TV show episode on original “Star Trek” TV shows. This “Star Trek” movie modernized the franchise by how clean the movie looks, the interesting story line and young actors. This movie was true to the Original, beside the twist they had for the whole movie. This is a great movie for someone that wants to get in “Star Trek” if they even got into them from past, like me. This movie make me want to go out and watch all the original Star Trek movies and TV episodes.

There nothing in this movie that did not make cents. Everything comes together throughout the movie. That is a big thing considering it is a Sci-Fi movie and many times in a Sic-Fi movies things do not come together by then end and make cents. The special effects were awesome in this movie. This is 90% special effect movie, but it awesome. (Side note: The USS Enterprise was real, while at lest the buttons on the ship were and leavers were all workable and they did something when they were touch or moved. The CGI is awesome in this “Star Trek”. They looked real life. I guess I should expect that from JJ Abrams.

The acting in the movie was awesome in “Star Trek”. The casting for “Star Trek” was perfect. When casting the people they got actor that resemble the older characters that acted in the original Star Trek. Star Trek has a great young and up coming cast. The cast has awesome chemistry. They all do an awesome job playing these characters; there are no weak links in the acting cast. From the beginning to end of the movie the characters quoting the memorable old one-liners, such as: Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy quote, “Dam it Jim I am a doctor, Not a…. ”, Kirk quote, “Give her more power, Scotty!”, Scotty quote, “I am giver her all I got Caption” and Spock quote, “Live long and Prosper.”

           Director: J.J. Abrams  ("Lost")

Writers (WGA): Roberto Orci (Transformers) &
                                        Alex Kurtzman (Transformers)

I give “STAR TREK” six USS Enterprises out five. This is an awesome movie. This is best action movie action of this year, so far. It is second best movie of the year, so far. This movie is for anyone that has any basic knowledge or any Trekky fan of the original “Star Trek” movie.
