What I know

There are some things in life I'm certain about. I watch too much TV, play too much Fantasy Football, and drink too much Mountain Dew. I'm also a realist (most of the time), which is why the following statement is easy for me to make. A few weeks ago, on a Friday afternoon in Los Angeles, a Metrolink Commuter Train carrying 200+ people collided with a Union Pacific Freight Train. Both vehicles were travelling at about 40mph. The Metrolink engineer was texting while "driving" and died during the crash. So did 24 other people, including an LAPD officer who just happened to be a lesbian, but more on that later. (Here comes the uncomfortable part.) The train wreck happened 7 years and one day AFTER the terrorist attacks on the United States in 2001. A lot of brave Americans died that day, may of whom ran into the buildings in an attempt to save others. But what September 11, 2001 taught us all was that we NEEDED to be prepared for a disaster. Any disaster. The trainings that took place after the attacks of the "First Responders" came into play on that Friday afternoon in Los Angeles. 200 fire fighters, paramedics, and police officers responded to the accident, a number I'm sure would have been a lot less if these First Responders had never been trained. So, in a wierd and morbid way, I say thank you to the hijackers for making our Emergency Response much better than it was that crisp September morning in 2001. You saved American lives, you bastards...I still hope you're rotting in hell. Gay marriage is now legal in California. We'll vote in November on an amendment to the State Constitution to make it illegal. I don't know how I'm voting on it yet. If I can figure it out before November 4th, I'll let you know. As I said at the beginning, I watch too much TV. Here's a breakdown of my weekly favorites. If you're lucky, I'll post comments on here throughout the season. Sundays: Amazing Race 13, The Simpsons, The Unit. Mondays: Chuck, Heroes, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Worst Week, CSI:Miami. Tuesday: NCIS, The Mentalist. Wednesday: Dirty Sexy Money, CSI: NY, Knight Rider, Criminal Minds. Thursday: CSI:, Survivor, The Office, ER. Friday: Numb3rs. In the summer, I add Big Brother, Monk, Psych, In Plain Sight, and Burn Notice. I'm sure I left off a show or two (including Lost), but my weekly TV responsibilities consist of 17.5 hours of viewing time. Thank God for TiVO, I don't know how I lived without it. I'm off to Solvang, a Bavarian Town about 40 miles from Santa Barbara later this week. Until next time...
